What is Gerund?
Gerund is a V+ing which functions as a noun.
1. Gerund as a Subject.
>Gerund + be + Adj
>Gerund + verb + Object + . . . .
Example :
1. It is necessary to spend money wisely.
Gerund : Spending money wisely
Be : is
Adj : Necessary
>Spending money wisely is necessary.
2. It makes me tired to walk all day.
Gerund : Walking all day
Verb : Makes
Object : Me
Adj : Tired
>Walking all day makes me tired.
2. Gerund as an Object
>Subjdct + certain verb + gerund
Certain verbs which can only be followed by V+ing are :
>admit, appreciate, avoid, consider, delay, discuss, enjoy, finish, give up, keep, mention, mind, postpone, put off, quit, suggest.
Example:
1. Mr Dodo (subject), enjoys (certain verb), working (gerund), as a sales consultant (object).
2. They (subject), discussed (certain verb), buying (gerund), a new car (object).
